Music feeds the soul of social justice movements. It inspires us; motivates us and challenges us to take the next steps toward a more just society. With that in mind, the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral holds M.O.R.E Arts Unleashed to inspire, motivate and challenge people to vote around an agenda that lifts up the voices and lives of poor and low-income people.
Performers include Grammy-nominated Joe Troop, whose song “A Plea to the U.S. Government to Fully Fund the Postal Service” went viral and garnered hundreds of thousands of signatures to save the USPS; and HuDost, a Kentucky-based duo whose song “Our Words Will be Louder” is featured at U2’s online conference this month. Other performers include theomusicologist Yara Allen, Sauuda Eshe’, Freddy Greene “Street Genie” and the NC Justice Band (Bakru Hunsel, Eric “Bobo” Broadway, Gary McCormick, and Rony Thomas); Shyrl Uzzell, Angela Coley, Catina Rosemond, Zemer Lexie Nuell and Petrina “Trina Thoughtz” Bryant, all of North Carolina; Matthew David of Oregon; Lu Aya (The Peace Poets) and Rev. Kazimir Brown of California; B. Soleil of Belize, Raina Sokolov-Gonzales, Charon Hribar of New York, Brian Farrow of the DMV. Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, will introduce the program.
